How to install the IDP console on any device
Put the IDP console on your iPhone or Android home screen, your Mac's Dock or your Windows taskbar, turn on push notifications, and keep it up to date.
The IDP console is a web app, so there is nothing to download from an app store. You install it straight from your browser, and from then on it has its own icon and opens in its own window, like any other app on your phone or computer.
Installed, the console starts faster, stays signed in on that device, and gives you shortcuts to the places you check most. On phones it can also put push notifications on your lock screen.
Pick your device below to watch the steps, then read on for the details.
Before you start
- Use the right browser. Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Chrome on Android. Edge or Chrome on Windows, ChromeOS and Linux.
- Open the console directly. Go to idprivacy.app in that browser. Links tapped inside other apps (email, Slack, Teams) often open in a built-in browser that can't install apps. Use Open in Safari or Open in Chrome first.
- Not in a private window. Private and incognito windows can't install apps.
- Sign in first. The installed app keeps your session on that device.
iPhone and iPad
- Open Safari and go to idprivacy.app. Sign in.
- Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up. On iPhone it's in the toolbar at the bottom; on iPad it's at the top right.
- Scroll the list and tap Add to Home Screen. If it isn't there, tap Edit Actions at the bottom of the list and add it.
- Keep the name IDP. If you see Open as Web App, leave it on. Tap Add.
- Open IDP from your Home Screen. It opens full screen, without Safari's address bar.
Chrome and Edge on iPhone and iPad can add the console too: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
Turn on push notifications
Apple only lets web apps send notifications once they are on the Home Screen, so do this from the installed app:
- Open IDP from the Home Screen icon, not from Safari.
- Go to Settings, then Notifications.
- Under On this device, turn on Push notifications, then tap Allow.
To change how they look or sound later, open the iPhone Settings app, then Notifications, then IDP.
Android
- Open Chrome and go to idprivacy.app. Sign in.
- Tap the menu, the three dots at the top right.
- Tap Add to home screen, then choose Install. On some phones the menu item reads Install app.
- Confirm. IDP appears on your home screen and in your app drawer.
Using Samsung Internet? Tap the menu, then Add page to, then Home screen.
Shortcuts
Touch and hold the IDP icon for three shortcuts:
- Leads opens your Lead inbox.
- Chats opens the conversations assigned to you.
- Queue opens the Action queue.
Push notifications
Open IDP, go to Settings, then Notifications. Under On this device, turn on Push notifications and tap Allow. Android's own settings (Settings, Apps, IDP, Notifications) decide sounds and where alerts appear.
Mac
Safari
On macOS Sonoma or later:
- Open idprivacy.app in Safari and sign in.
- Choose File, then Add to Dock…. You can also click Share in the toolbar and choose Add to Dock.
- Keep the name IDP and click Add.
IDP appears in your Dock and your Applications folder, and opens in its own window.
Chrome or Edge
- Open idprivacy.app and sign in.
- In Chrome, click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or open the menu and choose Cast, save, and share, then Install page as app…. In Edge, open the menu and choose Apps, then Install this site as an app.
- Click Install.
To keep it handy, right-click its Dock icon and choose Options, then Keep in Dock.
Windows
Microsoft Edge
- Open idprivacy.app in Edge and sign in.
- Click the App available icon in the address bar, or open the menu and choose Apps, then Install this site as an app.
- Click Install.
- Choose whether to pin IDP to the taskbar, the Start menu or the desktop.
Google Chrome
- Open idprivacy.app in Chrome and sign in.
- Click the install icon in the address bar, a monitor with a down arrow. Or open the menu and choose Cast, save, and share, then Install page as app….
- Click Install, then right-click IDP on the taskbar and choose Pin to taskbar.
Right-click the taskbar icon to jump straight to Lead Inbox, My conversations or the Action queue.
ChromeOS and Linux
Chrome on a Chromebook, and Chrome, Edge or Chromium on Linux, install the same way as on Windows: click the install icon in the address bar, or open the menu and choose Cast, save, and share, then Install page as app…. On a Chromebook, IDP then sits in the launcher; right-click it to Pin to shelf.
Firefox doesn't install web apps the same way on every system, so use Chrome or Edge for the installed console.
Keeping it up to date
There's nothing to update by hand. The installed app loads the current console every time it opens. If you keep it open for days, close it and open it again to pick up the newest version.
When you lose your connection
The console is a live view of your store, so it never shows you old conversations as if they were new. If your connection drops, the installed app shows a clear offline screen with a button to try again, and goes straight back to live data when you're online.
Removing it
Removing the app doesn't touch your account or anything in the console; you can always sign in from the browser.
- iPhone and iPad: touch and hold the IDP icon, tap Remove App, and confirm.
- Android: touch and hold the icon and tap Uninstall, or drag it to Uninstall.
- Mac (Safari): in Finder, open Applications and move IDP to the Trash.
- Mac, Windows, ChromeOS or Linux (Chrome or Edge): open IDP, open its menu and choose Uninstall. In Edge you can also manage installed apps at edge://apps.
- Windows: you can also right-click IDP in the Start menu and choose Uninstall.
Troubleshooting
- I don't see Add to Home Screen or Install. Check you're in Safari (iPhone, iPad, Mac) or Chrome or Edge (everywhere else), not in a private window or another app's built-in browser, and that the page has finished loading.
- The push toggle says to add the console to my Home Screen first. On iPhone and iPad, open IDP from its Home Screen icon and turn the toggle on there.
- Notifications don't arrive. Check Focus or Do Not Disturb, then the device's notification settings for IDP. Turning the Push notifications toggle off and on again re-registers this device.
- It opens in a browser tab, not its own window. Open it from the installed icon rather than a bookmark.
